Finally Empty Nesters
What do we do now? Open a wedding venue we say!
It all started when…
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that my idea, of a wedding and event venue, would take off as it has?
Thirty-Two years ago, we built our first home on our farm; the farm that had been in my husbands’ family for many years. My husband’s father passed away when he was 8 years old and his dream was to follow in his dad’s footsteps. We raised two of our three children on this farm, so calm and relaxed, allowing them the freedom and tranquility of country life. Where sunsets are so breathtaking and the peacefulness is amazing.
A few years ago, we thought we should move out of the small town of Ropesville. After 12 years, we decided, for convenience, to move to the big city of Lubbock. We didn’t realize how busy it would be and the noise - oh my! After two years of city life with my husband traveling back and forth with planting and stripping cotton, country life called us back home.
You can take the person out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the person.
So, we built a home in the middle of a grown-up pasture where our roots first started. That’s when I began to toy with the idea of something I had thought about for years, a wedding venue. We had one child still in school, so we were still very busy with farming and school activities but then the day came when our youngest son graduated, and we were part of the empty nesters. It was then that I knew what I was going to do. We talked to builders, landscapers, and concrete companies. We drew my dream on paper and then it happened; our venue was then in action. As we watched it grow and finally finished, it was time to open our doors.
I always knew my love for helping people achieve their dreams was becoming a reality when a friend of mine, whose daughter was getting married, came and saw our land before it was built. She knew her dreams had been answered and could see our vision; we then booked our first wedding. We opened Twin Lakes in March 2018 and since then, we have gotten to know so many wonderful couples and their families as they become a part of our family. Somehow, we have had a connection with each couple that has booked a wedding by either knowing my children, friends of friends, or a family from years past.
This was God’s plan and we thank him and are truly blessed for what he has provided.
