It all started when…

We met in high school; my sophomore year and his freshman. We were introduced at an FFA conference event by a mutual friend and he fell instantly. It took me 3 years, until the summer before I had started college, to finally give him his first chance at a double date (with my best friend and her old flame).

the love story

At first, it was only supposed to be a fling because I was starting my new life in college and he was shorter than me. But as time went on, it was nice being with him and hanging out. So, we decided to extend it beyond the summer. We've been together ever since and we just celebrated 8 years! We aren't a typical or traditional couple and we are 100% okay with that.

the proposal

We had been dating for 6 years before the proposal. We had been living together for 2 years when (one day) right after Valentine's Day, we went out shopping to see what sales were available. We happened to wind up at Kay's looking at rings and just walked out with one. Although it was a mutual proposal, we agreed not to officially become engaged, or tell our family and friends, until our 6 year anniversary. We planned a trip to my favorite place, San Antonio, and went to my favorite restaurant on the river walk. We then got engaged over dinner that night. The engagement wasn't a surprise but he did surprise me with a mariachi serenade at the end; which made it perfect.

why did you choose twin lakes?

It had the right amount of farmhouse feel that I was going for mixed with the perfect amount of elegance.

what is your wedding style/theme?

Country-Fall and Elegant

is there anything about your wedding, that may help other upcoming newlyweds in their wedding planning?

Most family/friend weddings I've been to, so far, have been in the summer, spring, or winter. This will be the first fall wedding and I think it'll help with giving our guests that are about to get married a different and unique perspective on a fall wedding.

what are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?

His reaction to me walking down the aisle - since it took a lot of convincing to get there in the first place.

advice for future couples:

Don't be afraid to ask for help, if things are getting rough; whether it be individually, or together as a couple, it never hurts to have professional help with whatever your struggling with. Britton is my first boyfriend, which most would see as being ridiculous, but I knew he was the one for me and there were a lot of hurdles that I had to face that I wasn't prepared for; but no matter how much I spoke to a best friend or my fiancé about it, the uncertainty was still there. Fortunately, by working on myself, it helped me grow as a person and ultimately helped in my relationship.
