It all started when…

We both were just footwear associates at Academy and became friends through music. Our friendship turned into puppy love within five months. We are now seven years in, and couldn't have picked a luckier year to enjoy this day. Luckily for us, we established early that we both only wanted to be with one person which is why it is so easy for us to get along. We have never had to break up or find someone else which I'm forever grateful for.

THE PROPOSAL

Alex took me on a surprise vacation blindfolded until we arrived. Got out of the truck to realize we were in Carlsbad New Mexico! I would always tell him how I wanted to surprise him and take him there but, he surprised me. It's funny to think about it now; we were both unprepared for the hour-and-a-half journey down this deep cave. We stopped so many times because "his leg was hurting" but, I now realize he was just trying to find the perfect moment to propose. By the time we reached the bottom, it was so dark that everyone was using their cell phone lights just to see every step of the way. We stopped to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Big Room trail full of stalagmites and different formations of caves. I realized how quiet Alex got while I was viewing the caves and turned around to him anxiously waiting for my reaction. I was out of breath and in complete shock! He truly is my best friend and that was the surprise of a lifetime for me.

WHAT MOMENT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Having fun and just enjoying a day dedicated to us. We put so much effort into work, school, family, and just simply caring for others that we forget to care for ourselves. A family picture with both of our grandmothers with their future generations is what we're both the most excited for.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TWIN LAKES?

Anyone who talks about or has seen Lubbock does not always talk about the beautiful scenery. Twin Lakes is the perfect venue for us! Alex is an engineer who has worked with wind turbines and substations since he graduated from Texas Tech. The windmill is the perfect touch to our personal lives so we had to find a venue that included one in our photos.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES?

If you plan to have a wedding and not an elopement, listen and plan a year ahead. Unfortunately for us, we chose the year of an unexpected economy. For wedding sites, book with Zola! WEDDING THEME/STYLE

Earthy and natural with a barrel theme to incorporate our love for whiskey. My favorite color is sea moss green and Alex's is charcoal grey. We wanted to showcase those colors for our wedding with black, silver, and beige accents.
